Men left hitchhikers in crashed 4wd that was heading north on Mainstreet after a crash that caused some traffic backups on the northbound side of the roadway.
At 8:54 p.m., one eastbound lane of westbound Interstate 40 eastbound on Mainstreet was closed temporarily when three large dump trucks were hit by another vehicle that was coming eastbound on the roadway, according to an investigation report by Kansas Highway Patrol.
Officials didn't release the exact amount of damage but said the crash injured one person and caused backups that shut down lanes of traffic.
The investigation determined the two-lane highway is safe for travel on the afternoon of Sept. 20 at this time, said Trooper Mike Gildon, a spokesman for KHP.
The crash caused the crash, as well as a westbound lane closure on I-40 and traffic on Mainstreet.
The vehicle involved with the wreck, the left rear of the pickup, "left the roadway, crossed a utility pole and crashed into the utility pole," investigators wrote in the report.
Gildon said the driver of the pickup was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The northbound lanes of main street were reopened by 7:05 p.m.
The investigation continued Monday with several members of the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Austin Police Department and KHP working to recover the truck and its truck body. The truck's registration remained on file with KHP.

The Federal Government has announced it has been allocated $8.8 million from the Coalition's controversial $2 billion "Saver AUS" budget which included "a huge commitment" to pay for mental health services, particularly for young asylum seekers.
In a budget statement released yesterday morning, Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced funding would be allocated from the Australian Development Budget for a "Saver AUS" in 2018-19 and for an additional $20 million towards providing mental health services for asylum seekers.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said he and Health Minister Sussan Ley were "deeply concerned at the recent rise in the number of people who are being turned away from Australian immigration detention centres, particularly young people who have been traumatised, possibly from their childhood".
"If we are to end the cycle of people turning themselves in to asylum seeker authorities, it is right for families to start the process of seeking their asylum once they have entered the world and become a permanent resident," he said.
"We will continue to look at how we can ensure that a person who is found asylum and becomes a permanent resident is treated appropriately and with dignity and compassion.
"There is no doubt that the asylum seeker family, including young people coming to this country as children to seek protection from family members, may have been traumatised by the experience at their parents' hands and their own parents have experienced some form of trauma," the statement continued.
"We know that these experiences are real, too, and it is our responsibility to ensure that these families do not experience the same trauma that young people who come to Australia as children do."
The Prime Minister's statement also made a statement about the need to "protect Australia's most vulnerable" and the "need for our country to be a safe haven for refugees" and "expanding the refugee intake to around 500,000 by the end of the year".
Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said the budget announcement was an "important first step" for the Coalition.
"While we are not yet seeing the results of all of the resources under this Saver AUS, it is well worth investing in this initiative," Mr Morrison said.
Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said the funding was being allocated as promised and pointed to the Saver AUS being designed to be a "very tight budget".
